During this class we will learn and practice a lot! Students will learn the entire process of making clothing or accessories: developing a mood board, sketch drawing, basics of pattern making and cutting techniques, use of the sewing machine, iron and other sewing equipment, the types of fabrics and properties of different fibers. Examples of this class’ projects are: bracelets, purses, pillow cases, bags, belts, pajama pants, shorts, skirts, overalls, summer dresses, etc. With the start of the second class a sewing machine will be required to complete projects.
At the beginning of this course we will review the sewing knowledge and skills of all students in order to gradually progress to the advanced level. The goal of the course is to give students a deep knowledge and confidence in the design and construction process. This includes sketching, fabric selection, pattern making and cutting (rules and methods), sewing sequence and sewing techniques, advanced use of sewing machine and other sewing equipment, steam and iron use, etc. We will learn to work with silk, wool, linen, cotton, rayon, fabrics with synthetic fibers and different combinations of these fabrics. We will also learn to work with knitted fabrics and denim. Among other class’ projects there will be skirts, dresses, shorts, bags and purses, pants, shirts and blouses, jackets, pullovers, summer dresses, business attire, gowns etc.
This class requires a sewing machine from the first lesson.
Does not require any prior sewing experience!
This course is a perfect opportunity for people who are looking to combine their creativity with love to sew. We will learn different techniques and sewing materials like rhinestones, sequins, buttons, beads, felt, lace, etc. to create your piece of art. No previous sewing experience required. Examples of projects will be: pictures, postcards, bookmarks, jewelry boxes, keychains, cloth flowers … and more. We will embroider elements as well!
